About CAPCOG
CAPCOG Request for Proposals
The Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) is looking to put together a retreat/workshop for our directors and program managers (12 to 15 people). We will need a trainer or facilitator for a half-day, or at least that’s what we think we need, and would like to know what your costs may be for such a project. We have several fairly new directors, and we, like so many organizations that rely on government grants, have weathered a pretty tough budgeting year. We are hoping to address team-building related items, but also to get our top managers thinking more about entrepreneurial opportunities for our agency, focused on addressing needs or gaps in expertise among our local government members in the Capital Area. We want some future thinking, innovations, and new definitions of organizational success. And of course, regionalism and regional solutions are the guiding principles for our activities.
Specific topics we’d like to address are:
- Communications styles that will help us internally but also improve how we tell our story externally.
- Identifying our own communication styles as managers, what are the strengths/weaknesses of our individual styles, how to adapt in the workplace, how to inspire ownership from our employees
- Keeping management staff motivated and working beyond their day-to-day tasks during uncertain times.
- How do we maintain momentum and look longer term, face budgetary constraints while maintaining our mission, address anxiety among employees, loss of programs/employees, handle the negative spotlight on government.
- How do we build better networks to increase visibility and credibility, position as the “go to” agency in the region?
- We want to build on partnerships and our current expertise, explore ways to gain political support for innovations, choose to become more innovative, update our services and service delivery, identify connections with the private sector, funding opportunities.
If you’d like to propose on providing this workshop for us, please send us a 1-2 page proposal to include:
- Your estimated costs for a one-day program, here in Austin, for up to 15 participants.
- Your proposed agenda and objectives to address the three topics listed above. We’ve been thinking along the lines of ½ day on communications and leadership, with another ½ day producing some new initiatives and planning, but we are open to your suggestions on how to structure the day. We will have a working lunch.
You can certainly include samples of your materials if you’d like. If you have questions, we’re happy to answer them via email or talk with you on the phone. Please submit your proposal by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24 to Sabina Mora, smora@capcog.org.
