Center for Regional Development
The CAPCOG Center for Regional Development works on behalf of policymakers, local governments, and citizens to advance regional planning in Central Texas. The Center's primary mission is to collect and publish data that facilitates coordination among diverse groups of regional stakeholders. By promoting information and resource sharing, we believe that regional planning goals can be accomplished efficiently and effectively for residents of Central Texas.
CAPCOG coordinates and participates in many regional committees, organizations, and task forces that require specialized skills and technical expertise. The Center contributes primarily to regional efforts in the following areas:
CAPCOG is involved in many aspects of economic development in the Capital Area. We primarily assist with strategic planning, data collection, local and regional analysis, and other technical needs associated with understanding economic trends and using information effectively. |
CAPCOG strives to offer a regional perspective to local planning needs. We help communities acquire and maintain data, facilitate regional cooperation to address planning needs, and provide education and training in the review and update of planning documents. |
CAPCOG participates in the planning and coordination of improvements to the region’s transportation system. Our goal is to contribute information and technical assistance that allows for integrated economic, land use, natural resource, and transportation planning solutions. |
CAPCOG is the state designated planning agency for solid waste management in the region. Each year CAPCOG provides more than $440,000 in Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) funding for local government projects, including source reduction, recycling, local illegal dumping enforcement, solid waste studies, HHW collections, and public information efforts. CAPCOG also reviews applications for landfill permits, provides technical assistance to local governments on solid waste issues, and offers continuing education opportunities for local governments and solid waste professionals. |
CAPCOG hosts and participates in the Capital Area Regional Environmental Task Force (RETF). The RETF is a regional network of law enforcement and health department officers working to prevent illegal dumping and other environmental crimes. CAPCOG and the RETF offer certified training classes for officers and manage promotional efforts designed to increase the public's awareness of illegal dumping issues. |
