Regional Planning

GIS Services

CAPCOG Regional Planning provides GIS support services for the Council of Governments. Our most visible activities include:

• Maintaining and publishing a regional 9-1-1 base map;
• Administering the Capital Area Geospatial Base Map (GeoMap) Program; and
• Distributing geospatial data via the CAPCOG Information Clearinghouse.

In addition to these activities, our staff provides a range of GIS support services for elected officials, our member governments and the public. Recent examples include:

• Developing a prototype Fireplane Map that highlights the level of wildfire concern in the wildland-urban interface;
• Analyzing commute and laborshed patterns in support of the Capital Area Regional Transit Coordination Committee (RTCC); and
• Preparing for the 2010 US Census.

Be sure to check out CAPCOG’s Information Clearinghouse where we provide easy access to useful data sources and publications for our region. Categorized by type of information, the Clearinghouse includes geospatial (GIS) data, tabular (Census and Demographic) data, maps, publications (including presentations from workshops), and information about the Geomap program, which is a cost saving program for the region to obtain current base map data such as aerial imagery and LiDAR data.

There is no charge to download information from the Clearinghouse. CDs, DVDs, or prints of these datasets can be purchased at cost of reproduction plus labor and shipping based on this fee schedule. To order any of these datasets, please contact Sean Whitehead or CAPCOG’s Center for Regional Development at (512) 916-6000.
