CAPCOG Employment Opportunities

Regional Economic Resiliency Planner 
CAPCOG is seeking a Regional Economic Resiliency Planner. This position is a temporary position funded through a grant awarded by the Economic Development Administration. The primary purpose of this position is to work with communities included in the Hurricane Harvey Federal Disaster Declaration in support of strengthened recovery and resiliency. Work involves grant administration and support including grant application development, progress reporting and administration for the division, as well as routine planning and research work. The position also provides support and training to regional grant applicants. Utilizes an understanding of economic and community development to assist jurisdictions with the identification of projects that enhance regional disaster recovery and economic resilience. Works with local jurisdicitons to develop these projects and support grant application development. Facilitates the connection between local project needs and state and federal grant programs.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university is required. Coursework in regional or community planning, public affairs, or public administration preferred.
Experience: Required: Experience in planning, economic development, disaster resiliency, and/or grants management.
Preferred: Experience working with Economic Development Administration grants, federal disaster recovery programs.
Salary range: $54,000 - $60,000 based on qualifications

Director - Homeland Security
The Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) is seeking candidates for Director of Homeland Security, who oversees the emergency management planning and coordination for the 10-county region and manages the disaster recovery program. Candidates must have hands-on experience working with disaster planning and response including working with first responders at the city/county level. Experience with grant management is required related to the homeland security grant program and FEMA. Working knowledge of Texas rules, statutes and policies related to emergency management preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with major coursework in emergency preparedness planning, public safety, emergency services, or related field required.
Required Experience: Minimum five years of experience in management of emergency/disaster planning programs. Minimum of three years in general administrative management duties in a government agency including work with contracts, budget, and grants.
Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Salary range: $72,000 - $84,000 per year depending on qualifications.

Administrative Assistant II
CAPCOG is hiring an Administrative Assistant II to support the Regional Services and Planning and Economic Development Divisions to perform routine administrative support such as preparing division documents, maintaining filing systems, preparing mail, scheduling and setting up committee meetings, and other clerical support functions. Office electronics such as desktop computers, multiline phones, and photocopiers/scanners; daily use of MS Office software; maintain file management systems; and the rules of composition and grammar of the English language are some of the skills used in the performance of the essential functions of the position.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent is required.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in general clerical/secretarial experience required.
A combination of education and experience can be substituted for one another as determined by the division director.
Salary range: $17.00 to $17.85 depending on qualifications
