Get updates on regional solid waste issues at this meeting, open to the public. The Solid Waste Advisory Committee, formed in 1993, helps coordinate and guide implementation of the Regional Solid Waste Management Plan. The committee, whose membership includes representatives from across the greater Austin metropolitan area, also scores and prioritizes applications for solid waste grant funds.

TPWD Grant Workshops: Community Outdoor Outreach Program

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will accept applications for the Community Outdoor Outreach Program (CO-OP) beginning Sept. 17 with a Feb, 1, 2019 deadline. It is conducting a grant writing workshop on Oct. 23, 2018 in Austin to help governments and organizations apply.

Tax-exempt organizations and local governments are eligible to apply for grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 to fund programs meeting the Texas Parks and Wildlife mission. Grants are available to applicants introducing non-traditional constituents to TPWD related outdoor recreation, conservation and environmental education programs. Applications will only be accepted through TPWD’s Recreation Grants Online portal.

CO-OP staff are providing grant writing workshops to discuss program requirements, the application process and applicant questions. Applicants are encouraged to review the CO-OP Program Guidelines located in the Resources section in Recreation Grants Online.

ADRC Training: Veteran Peer Support Network

Join CAPCOG and its Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of the Capital Area for a training about supporting active military personnel, veterans and their family members through mentorship and guidance. The Military Veteran Peer Network will lead an entry level course to raise awareness of the issues facing the military and veteran communities.

Participants will become state sponsored peer mentors with the Military Veteran Peer Network after completing the eight-hour training that is designed to provide volunteers with frontline intervention tools addressing immediate basic needs of veterans.

The Military Veteran Peer Network is a community of Texas veterans, active duty personnel, their families and the organizations that serve them. Besides offering mentorship, the group helps provide access to services and resources available to veterans.
