July 31 Governor’s Office Seeks Nominations for Star of Texas Award

Peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical first responders across Texas daily place themselves in harm’s way in order to serve their fellow Texans.  In an effort to recognize the sacrifices of these first responders, the State of Texas created the Star of Texas Award in 2003.  This award serves to honor the bravery and sacrifice of Texas’ first responders by honoring those who have been killed or sustained serious injuries in the line of duty.

The Governor’s Star of Texas Award Advisory Committees are currently accepting nominations for the 2012 awards.  Nominations can be submitted online on the Governor’s website at http://www.governor.state.tx.us/star_of_texas.  The submission deadline is July 31, 2012.

To be eligible for the 2012 awards, the critical incident must have occurred between September 1, 2003 and June 30, 2012, and the first responder must not have previously received a Star of Texas Award for that particular incident.  The awards will be presented by the Governor or his designee on a date yet to be determined in September of 2012.

Your assistance in identifying all eligible first responders for these important awards is appreciated.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding nominations, please contact the following staff at 512-463-1919: Christina Grady (email: cgrady@governor.state.tx.us) or Keely Hill (email: keely.hill@governor.state.tx.us).
