The Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area is sponsoring a program to help seniors reduce their risk and fear of falling. A Matter of Balance - Managing Concerns about Falling is a free eight-session program for participants ages 60 and older. The evidence based features group discussions, problem-solving strategies and physical activity to help participants prevent or manage falls, maintain independence and increase activity levels.

The Capital Area Council of Governments Homeland Security Task Force, which meets the first Thursday of every month, will meet to discuss regional homeland security initiatives. The Homeland Security Task Force is a 27-member board that facilitates regional homeland security activities among local jurisdictions to include planning, training, funding and mutual aid partnerships.

Older Adult Health & Wellness Training: Chronic Disease Self Management

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program is a six-week program that teaches older adults, 60 and older, with chronic illnesses the skills needed in the day-to-day management of treatment and to maintain and increase one’s activities. Classes will be held Thursdays Oct. 3 through Nov. 7, 2019.

Using a group setting to give a shared learning experience, the program teaches techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation. Program attendees learn about maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance. They also learn about the appropriate use of medications; how to communicate effectively with family, friends, and health professionals; how to manage their nutrition; and how to make decisions and evaluate new treatments.

CAPCOG and its Criminal Justice Advisory Committee (CJAC) are preparing for the upcoming grant cycle for the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division's Plan Year 2021. They are seeking input to update CAPCOG's Regional Strategic Criminal Justice Plan.

At this meeting, stakeholders will hear a presentation on relevant criminal justice information and discuss priorities with other stakeholders. Stakeholders will be asked to come up with priorities in different areas of criminal justice, as well as identify the top five priorities for the region.

Local Business Training: Governor’s Small Business Forum — Round Rock

It is also an opportunity to network with other entrepreneurs, business owners, managers, and business-oriented nonprofits, as well as local, regional, state and federal agencies. All forums include the Governor's Small Business Awards to recognize outstanding businesses in Texas.
