The Central Texas Clean Air Coalition (CAC) recognized the City of Austin’s Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Program and Travis County Judge, Samuel Biscoe, with its 2020 Air Central Texas awards for making significant contributions to improving the region’s air quality.
Austin’s TDM Program received the 2020 Air Central Texas Outstanding Organization Award for its commitment to decreasing the drive-alone rate and transportation emissions within Austin. The program expanded its Smart Trips Austin initiative city-wide to serve all residents with transportation information and personalized support in planning sustainable trips. It launched GetThereATX.com to provide residents, employers, schools, and visitors with information about using sustainable transportation throughout the city. It also piloted an electric bicycle fleet program for employees to cycle to their mid-day trip locations instead of driving.
Travis County Judge Samuel Biscoe received the 2020 Bill Gill Central Texas Air Quality Leadership Award for his long and distinguished record of leadership and advocacy for protecting Central Texas’ air quality. Biscoe played a key role in ensuring Travis County supported the region’s air quality plans that maintained attainment of federal air quality standards. Biscoe, a former CAC and CAPCOG chair, served on the CAC for more than a decade supporting multiple regional efforts to improve air quality.
The Air Central Texas Awards celebrate the activities by organizations and individuals that have made significant air quality contributions and inspire future actions to support regional air quality planning efforts. The Bill Gill award is named after a long-time air quality champion and expert, who finished out his environmental career at CAPCOG.
