CAPCOG is seeking nominations for the 2019 Jack Griesenbeck Leadership in Regionalism Award, which recognizes a person whom emphasizes the spirit of regionalism through their actions to strengthen region. Nominations will be accepted until Oct. 24 and can include volunteers, community leaders or elected officials whose work has stretched beyond county lines to further regional efforts.
Named after Bastrop County Judge Jack Griesenbeck, CAPCOG’s first chair, the regionalism award honors someone who consistently advocates a regional and multijurisdictional approach through their work with local governments, nonprofits, and other organizations. Recipients have included Texas Senator Kirk Watson; Texas Representative Paul Workman; Dr. W. Neal Kocurek; Robert J. Huston, former Texas Commission on Environmental Quality chair; former Texas Senator Troy Fraser; former Travis County Judge Samuel T. Biscoe; Marble Falls Police Chief Mark Whitarce; and Bob Daigh, former Texas Department of Transportation Austin District Engineer.

CAPCOG is also soliciting nominations for the 2019 Air Central Texas Awards that recognize organizations and individuals that have made significant contributions to improving the region’s air quality. The awards include the Air Central Texas Outstanding Organization Award, which recognizes an activity by an organization that has exhibited exceptional leadership on regional air quality issues within the past year; and the Bill Gill Central Texas Air Quality Leadership Award, which recognizes an individual who has contributed a significant and lasting impact on Central Texas air quality. Nominations for the Air Central Texas Awards are due by November 1.
