CAPCOG’s Homeland Security Division is hosting a virtual cybersecurity symposium to strengthen collaboration on cybersecurity strategies and teach attendees best practices while learning about trending threats through panel discussions and interactive cyber-exercises. The symposium will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 26 on Microsoft Teams.
Cybersecurity threats are a continually growing concern with incidents such as those affecting SolarWinds and Colonial Pipeline occurring on a national level; cyberattacks also have affected the region’s local governments. The symposium will gather local elected officials, emergency managers, IT directors and other key government officials to hear from a panel of cybersecurity experts from national agencies. Attendees will be lead through an interactive table-top exercise by Earl Crane, a Ph.D. in engineering management and information security. Crane, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, has worked on the National Security Council and taught cybersecurity for 18 years at Carnegie Mellon.
