CAPCOG will host demographers from Texas Demographic Center to discuss population trends around the region at its September General Assembly meeting after the representatives vote on CAPCOG’s 2025-26 fiscal year budget. The Sept. 17 meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Edwards University’s Ragsdale Center on Moody Drive in Austin.
Dr. Helen You and Dr. Monica Cruz, from the Texas Demographic Center, will present on the region’s population demographics comparing it to state trends and looking at how housing units, the region’s labor force and older adult population are changing throughout the region.
You, the Texas Demographic Center’s associate director, oversees the population estimates and projection programs for the center. She has attained extensive expertise in demographic research, with a particular focus on various aspects of welfare, education, migration, health, and healthcare in Texas. Cruz serves on the center’s research team to conduct community assessments and focus group facilitation. Her research interests include housing, economic development, poverty, and employment.
During the meeting, CAPCOG General Assembly representatives will vote on the agency’s 2025-26 FY budget and elect members of a nominating committee, that will review self-nominations of those wanting to serve on the 2026 CAPCOG Executive Committee.
