Honoring the Mission: Counseling to Promote Positive Caregiving

The Area Agency on Aging is hosting professional care managers' training, Honoring the Mission: Counseling to Promote Positive Caregiving. The session will bring two national speakers to discuss issues related to long-term care for patients and their effects on the professional caregiver.

Clinical psychologists, Dr. Barry J. Jacobs, Psy.D. and Dr. Julia L. Mayer, Psy.D., will speak on topics covered in their book AARP Meditations for Caregivers—Practical, Emotional and Spiritual Support for You and Your Family.

This is a seminar for professional care managers. Free social work CEUs are available.

Striking a Balance

The 2018 Striking a Balance Caregiver Conference will bring together local resources and national speakers to aid and educate family caregivers about their own caregiving situations. The 17th annual conference will feature a keynote speaker and several breakout sessions on various caregiving topics that will be led by experts and volunteer leaders.

This conference is for nonprofessional caregivers. Respite care is available during the conference hours.

Diabetes Self-Management Program

This six-week program teaches older adults who are 60 years of age or older to better manage Type-2 diabetes by setting activity, nutrition and treatment expectations. Offered in a group setting that facilitates lectures, open discussions and activities, the program runs for two and a half hours once a week. 

This course will be held Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from Sept. 5 to Oct. 10, 2018.
