Current Classes

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program is a six-week program that teaches older adults, 60 and older, with chronic illnesses the skills needed in the day-to-day management of treatment and to maintain and increase one’s activities.

Using a group setting to give a shared learning experience, the program teaches techniques that will let individuals do the following:

  • Manage Symptoms
  • Incorporate Exercise
  • Monitor Nutrition
  • Talk with Your Doctor
  • Make Informed Treatment Decisions
  • Deal with Emotions
  • Control Stress

This six-week program will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays July 9 through Aug. 13, 20019

Your Partner In Serving Older Adults, Persons with Disabilities & Caregivers

This free workshop is for nonprofit, healthcare and government professional care managers. It will include an overview of the many services and resources provided by the Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area and the Aging and Disability Resource Center of the Capital Area.

Topics to be covered will include:

  • Information and Referral Services for Persons with Disabilities and older Adults

Striking a Balance

The 2019 Striking a Balance Caregiver Conference will bring together local resources and national speakers to aid and educate family caregivers about their own caregiving situations. The 18th annual conference will feature a keynote speaker and several breakout sessions on various caregiving topics that will be led by experts and volunteer leaders.

This conference is for nonprofessional caregivers. Respite care is available during the conference hours.
