Basic Peace Officer Course # 87 (Full-Time, Day)

The Basic Peace Officer Course is designed to meet the initial training requirements mandated by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) for becoming a Certified Texas Peace Officer and to prepare students to take the State's Peace Officer Licensing Exam.

Subjects are taught by TCOLE Certified Peace Officers to meet standardized objectives and to prepare students for the realities of working as a peace officer. Many subjects are taught in an academic setting, while others are taught as 'hands-on' practical lessons.  This is a 6-month, full-time, police training academy which runs from 6:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., Monday through Thursday. This '4/10' schedule is intended to promote using less fuel during the weekly commute, to provide more study time for cadets, and to emulate a 10-hour work schedule used by most law enforcement agencies.

Date/Time:
March 5, 2018, 6:45am –
August 17, 2018, 5:45pm

Special Instructions:

To apply for the Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC), applicants must complete the following steps:

Register - provide complete contact information by clicking on the ‘Register Now’ button.  Registrants DO NOT need to pay tuition until they are accepted into the Academy. Please enter coupon code ‘BPOC87-RLEA’ when registering.

Download the Personal History Statement (PHS) by clicking on ‘Attachments' (scroll down). Fill out and submit the completed PHS as directed in the form.

After your PHS has been reviewed and approved by the CAPCOG Regional Law Enforcement Academy Director Randy Holmes, CAPCOG will contact you saying one of three things:

1.  We need an interview (we will call for an interview appointment)
2.  Your PHS has been provisionally approved
3.  Your PHS has been disqualified

If you are eligible to continue the process of enrolling in our Academy, you will need to attend the entrance exam and seminar. You will be contacted, via email, regarding dates and times. During the seminar you will be given additional information and required documents. The deadline for turning in all the required documents and tuition will be discussed during the seminar.

Agency sponsored students are exempt from taking the entrance exam and submitting a PHS. Please email your first and last name, phone number and the name of the sponsoring agency to bpoc@capcog.org. You will need to attend a mandatory seminar.  You will be contacted, via email, regarding dates and times. During the seminar you will be given additional information and required documents. The deadline for turning in all the required documents and tuition will be discussed during the seminar.

Acceptance is based on many factors including the PHS, potential interview, and required documents. Disqualification can occur if forms and steps are not completed satisfactorily.

Agency sponsored students will pay $1,800 in tuition plus $100 in course materials, a total of $1,900. Self sponsored students will pay $2,200 in tuition plus $100 in course materials, a total of $2,300. Applicants outside of Region 12, the CAPCOG 10-county region, will pay an additional $300 per person in tuition. Region 12 consists of Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis, and Williamson counties.

Cadets will need a laptop computer for class.

Refunds: If a prospective cadet requests a refund, a processing fee of $100 will be charged to the cadet. No refunds or partial refunds will be made, under any circumstances, on or after the first day of class. Tuition collected for the BPOC may not be carried forward and applied to other BPOC courses. Students are not reimbursed any portion of the tuition if they are terminated from the course once the course has begun. If a tuition payment is made by someone other than the prospective cadet, and then a refund is requested, the tuition will go back to the party who paid tuition. If the tuition is paid with a credit card, the refund will be credited back to that credit card. The Capital Area Council of Governments Regional Law Enforcement Academy will terminate any student for failure to make complete payment of tuition for the Basic Peace Officer Course.
