Family Violence and Mental Health TCOLE 3901

The goal of this class is to examine the individualized training and skills officers have previously received in the areas of domestic violence and mental health issues and combine/apply those skills together at the scene of a call that involves both these issues for the best outcome for all including victims and children.  Students will learn how family violence, trauma and adverse childhood experiences may cause mental health problems in victims or suspects and how mental health issues may cause family violence. The class will also examine Texas law and agency policy for these two complicated areas.
