De-Escalation Techniques
March 10, 2025
8:00 am - 5:00 pm
- Peace Officers
Lee County Sheriff's Office
Venue Address:
This TCOLE 1849 course improves officers’ response to incidents involving people in crisis who are behaving erratically. It emphasizes public and officer safety while teaching tactical de-escalation to reduce the intensity of an encounter with a suspect. The training enables officers with additional options for voluntary compliance and to mitigate the need for a higher level of force while they maintain control of the situation.
Mandated with the passage of the Sandra Bland Act (SB 1849) by the Texas Legislature in 2017, officers with only a basic proficiency certificate are now required to obtain 8-hours of TCOLE approved de-escalation training every 48-months. This class is also required for officers who wish to obtain either an Intermediate or Advanced certificate. It must taken in person for out of state officers needing a Texas Peace Officer’s license. The course also is required to earn the Mental Health Officer Certification through TCOLE.
This course can be purchased as a combination package with Crisis Intervention Training from Feb. 10 to 14, 2025, and Mental Health Officer Course, from March 11 to 13, 2025. All together the discounted price is $600 to enroll in the three courses. Seating however is limited for the joint enrollment because of the class size restrictions. All courses are being taught at Lee County Sheriff’s office, 2122 FM 448, Giddings, TX 78942.
