Description:

Enter the classroom through the CAPCOG training entrance. This entrance is located under the metal awning near the main parking lot.

Walk down the long hallway to the room.  Signs will be posted to help with direction.

After completion of this course, you will be able to describe the importance of really listening. You will know how to identify barriers to listening well and implement the steps of active, effective listening. You will be able to uncover hidden messages, and listen well in tense, emotional situations. You will also know how to increase the information flow to enhance communication and teamwork. Effective Listening helps to Build Relationships, Increase Productivity, Solve Problems, Improve our ability to influence, persuade, or negotiate as well as enable us to avoid or minimize conflicts and misunderstandings. Don’t miss this powerful, interactive workshop.

Instructor: Dr Gene Smith

Dr. Gene Smith has been a nationally recognized public speaker, keynote and educator for more than 40 years. He is the founder and CEO of Dr. Gene Smith Training and Consulting. Gene has created and teaches several developmental workshops. He is nationally certified as a Public Information Officer. Gene is a graduate of the SHRM Human Resource Manager course at the University of Texas in Austin. He served as Chief of Staff, with a focus on professional development, for Williamson County Emergency Communications in Georgetown, Texas, for over 11 years.
Gene speaks at a number of conferences and symposiums each year, as well as conducting in-service classes, workshops, and seminars for various agencies nation-wide with a genuine love and respect for those dedicated to excellence in the workplace. Special Instructions:

Dress Code: To promote a professional training environment, CAPCOG requires proper attire.  Attendee must provide their PID # to receive TCOLE credit for courses taken through CAPCOG. CAPCOG provides training for the Emergency Communication Centers (ECC) in our region at no cost to 9-1-1 telecommunicators and their departments. When space is reserved for a 9-1-1 training class offered by CAPCOG, students or the supervisor who made the reservation must cancel such reservation at least two business days prior to start of the class.
