Description:

These training sessions will be located in the Eitelman Conference Room.

A certified instructor will provide insight and information about the growing problem of illegal dumping and other environmental crimes during this one- or two-day offering of environmental law training courses for East Texas Council of Governments member jurisdictions.

A basic environmental law course will take place on the first day and will be followed by an intermediate course on the second. The basic course is a prerequisite for the intermediate course. Each course will offer their own certificates and continuing education units/hours.

The courses cover various state statues that allow city and county officials to properly investigate, charge, and prosecute those responsible for creating public nuisance and illegal dump sites as well as those who perform other solid waste violations including illegal outdoor burnings and waterway pollution. They also cover how to abate or mitigate illegal dumpsites.

Each course is available to all types of local and state officials to include, but not limited to, peace officers, code enforcement personnel, fire marshals, emergency management personnel, solid waste management personnel, waste water personnel, city managers, public works directors and local elected officials — county judges, county commissioners, city council members, and mayors. State agency personnel such as those that represent DPS, TCEQ, and TDEM also are welcome to attend.

Basic environmental law provides the following CEUs:

TCOLE: 6 hours
Code Enforcement: 6 hours
Sanitarian: 6 hours
OSSF: 4 hours

Intermediated environmental law provides the following CEUs:

TCOLE: 6 hours
Code Enforcement: 6 hours
