Grief and mourning are necessary passages in the human experience. They will impact you and your team, it’s inevitable. In addition, in emergency services you must face helplessness and hopelessness in the face of human evil and unrelenting loss. (We don’t always get to be heroes.) You seldom acknowledge them. Instead you stuff them and the underlying stream of negative emotion surfaces in bubbles of anger, strife, sniping, and irritability. Unfortunately, your co-workers are doing the same.
In this workshop:
– You will boldly face these challenges. You will reap the benefit of a deeper understanding of the role of grief in your own life.
– You will acquire tools and strategies to both recognize and address the impact of grief, hopelessness and helplessness in your team.
– You’ll gain a framework to address the administrative issues that arise in times of tragic events, such as a line of duty death.
Instructor: Edie De Vilbiss
Edie De Vilbiss is passionate about sharing her discoveries with you. Working 9-1-1 communications for years brought her compassion fatigue, health problems, and spiritual malaise. She became cranky, fat, and cynical. Over twenty years, she has intentionally renewed her life. Now, she is peaceful, thin, and joyful. She has earned M.S. and an M.Div. and has served as an addictions counselor and Chaplain. Many people benefit with her work. She now invites your transformation through encouraging adoption of simple and actionable tools for your life journey. The life you love begins with habits.
