The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced its 2021 Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program for rural and small urban areas, which includes the San Marcos Urbanized Area and rural portions of the Austin TxDOT District. The deadline to apply for program funding will close March 15 and accepted projects should start Sept. 1, 2021.
The program seeks to promote the availability of cost-effective, efficient, and coordinated passenger transportation services planned, designed and carried out to meet the special needs of older adults and people with disabilities when public transportation is insufficient, inappropriate or unavailable, using the most efficient combination of financial and other resources. Eligible organizations include nonprofits; state or local governments that are approved by the state to the services or certifies that no nonprofit is available in the service area, and private taxi companies that provide shared-ride taxi services to the general public.
TxDOT will hold two application webinars — one on Feb. 11, 2021 and one on Feb. 16, 2021.

Projects must be derived from the applicable Regionally Coordinated Transportation Plan, which can be found at https://www.campotexas.org/rtcc/. And projects in the San Marcos Urbanized Area will need a Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization letter of support stating the project is consistent with its long-range transportation plan.
