Enter the Mesquite Room by entering building 310 through the CAPCOG training entrance. This entrance is located under the metal awning near the main parking lot.
Prospective independent cadets for CAPCOG’s Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) No. 103 need to pass the Police Officer Entrance Exam before qualifying for enrollment.
The entrance exam is a timed, four-part test covering basic mathematics (calculators not allowed), reading comprehension, grammar, and writing skills. Candidates must score at least a 75 average calculated on all four sections. After successfully completing the test, further BPOC enrollment instructions will be given. Please be prepared to stay for at least another hour the post testing information.
BPOC No. 103 Information
The start date for the upcoming BPOC No. 103 is June 23, 2025. It will be held at the CAPCOG Regional Law Enforcement Academy. The class will graduate about 7-months in early February 2026. Graduates must be 21 before completing the course.
BPOC No. 103 is fulltime, day academy, meaning the course run from 6 a.m.- 5 p.m., Monday through Thursdays, with hours that can vary slightly depending on the class syllabus, instructor schedules, and holidays. Some class instructions will be held off site.
BPOCs are designed to meet the initial training requirements mandated by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) for becoming a certified Texas peace officer and to prepare cadets to take the state’s Peace Officer Licensing Exam. BPOC topics are taught by TCOLE certified peace officers to meet standardized objectives and to prepare students for the realities of working as a peace officer. Many subjects are taught in an academic classroom setting and others such as defensive tactics, firearms and driving are taught as hands-on practical lessons. Cadets also will participate in physical fitness training for overall health.

This entrance exam is one of many CAPCOG will perform for enrolling cadets into BPOC No. 103. If this the testing doesn’t fit your schedule, please review other testing times on this website or contact Tonya Domingo for alternative testing times. The initial BPOC schedule is tentative and based on when CAPCOG believes it will meet enrollment requirements. If the BPOC start date is adjusted, cadets will be notified promptly.
CAPCOG’s entrance exams are only for prospective independent candidates. Law enforcement agency-sponsored cadets are exempt from taking the exam. CAPCOG encourages all would-be applicants to explore employment opportunities with local jurisdictions. CAPCOG doesn’t keep a list of all jurisdictions that are hiring but some can be viewed on its careers page.
