The CAPCOG Executive Committee adopted the CAPCOG’s 2025-30 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) in June, giving local governments an outline for understanding regional economic conditions and identifying shared goals that can sustain and bolster economic growth.
“Economic impacts typically go beyond city boundaries, affecting entire regions,” said Kaileen McHugh, CAPCOG planning and economic development coordinator. “By aligning our efforts through the CEDS, we recognize our economies are interconnected and can enhance our collective resilience.”
The strategy promotes sustainable economic growth by evaluating the region’s unique priorities and challenges while identifying economic opportunities. It also is a tool to aid communities in pursuing grants for planning and implementing economic development projects.
CAPCOG developed the CEDS through data analysis, research, and community engagement. It held workshops in each county with key economic development stakeholders and residents to gather local input, while a steering committee of economic development professionals provided guidance on drafting the strategy. CAPCOG then accepted public feedback on a draft version of the CEDS before it was reviewed and approved by CAPCOG’s Economic Development Advisory and Executive Committees.
The five-year plan will be reviewed annually, and CAPCOG will provide updates on its data and initiatives, so it evolves with the region’s economic landscape.
