The CAPCOG Homeland Security division assisted the Texas General Land Office (GLO) in promoting a funding opportunity that awarded $70.53 million in Hurricane Harvey recovery funds to seven local governments in the CAPCOG region. The funding will be used to strengthen flood resiliency in those communities impacted by the historic storm.
“CAPCOG wanted to make sure that every impacted community in the region knew about this funding opportunity, so they could better mitigate the impact of future storms,” said Martin Ritchey, CAPCOG homeland security director. “It is great that several jurisdictions capitalized on the opportunity and were awarded funding for their projects.”
CAPCOG assisted the GLO by encouraging local governments in the region to apply for the funding by communicating the funding opportunity’s project eligibility to its advisory and policy committees and coordinating stakeholder meetings consisting of the local governments impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
Projects funded within the region include:
- Road extension improvements in the city of Bastrop
- Roadway flooding prevention projects in the city of Elgin
- Drainage improvement projects in the city of Smithville
- A new emergency shelter in Caldwell County
- Road and flood control improvement projects in the city of Martindale
- Flood control and drainage improvement projects in the city of Uhland
- Drainage and flood control improvement projects in the city of Lexington
