The CAPCOG Regional Law Enforcement Academy (RLEA) recently graduated 37 cadets from two Basic Peace Officer Courses (BPOC) finishing in early May and June. After completing their 841 hours of course work, every cadet passed their Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Licensing Exam (TCOLE) on their first attempt continuing the academy’s decade long tradition of a 100 percent pass rate. Thirteen graduating cadets scored above a 90 on their exam.
“These cadets will make exceptional officers, and serve their communities well,” said Mike Jennings, RLEA director. “Their passion for serving the community shows in how they stepped up and were able to adapt to the training as teaching methods changed because of the Coronavirus.”
The graduations marked the completion of CAPCOG’s 89th and 90th BPOCs. Over the years, the courses have grown to teach more than 40 different policing subjects which is more subjects than recommended by TCOLE. At the core of each course are CAPCOG’s instructors who have been hired because of their sense of community and civic responsibility which they instill on the cadets.
“Being part of the community and respecting those in it makes the community and the officer a lot safer,” Jennings said. “We want our graduating officers to serve the community the right way.”
RLEA is starting its 91st BPOC in July and seeking to fill its 92nd BPOC.
