The Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area (AAACAP) — a division of CAPCOG — will host two webinars in March for older adults, their caregivers, and aging professionals that focus on protecting older adults’ financial wellbeing and health and wellness. Opioid Awareness for Older Adults will be at 10 a.m. March 24 and Preparing for 2021 Medicare Scams will be at 9:30 a.m. March 25.
“These webinars are bringing subject matter experts into the homes of older adults and their caregivers to discuss issues that can significantly impact their lives,” said Patty Bordie, AAACAP director. “By offering them, we are hoping people can better age in place and protect themselves.”
The Medicare scam awareness webinar will discuss identifying fraud, protecting yourself against fraud, and trending Medicare scams. The Senior Medicare Patrol of Texas, which educates older adults about Medicare fraud statewide, will cohost the event. The opioid awareness presentation will discuss how opioids are used to treat pain, how to recognize addictions and how to treat addiction. It will be led by addiction psychiatrist, Dr. Beth Boyarsky, who has more than 20 years in treating addiction. People wishing to attend will need a computer or mobile device.
