CAPCOG’s Emergency Communications Division is always interested in raising awareness about preparing residents to call 9-1-1 by providing communities in the region with public education materials. Recently, it supported multiple communities’ National Night Out events by supplying more than 5,000 items to more than 20 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) — or 9-1-1 Call Centers. It has supported other events such as trunk-or-treats, sporting events, and job recruiting fairs.
CAPCOG routinely works with the local PSAPs to provide materials with educational messaging to residents; as a reminder, those PSAPs, cities and counties can request materials by emailing cmac@capcog.org.
Messaging on the materials reinforces valuable information people should remember when dialing or texting 9-1-1 such as try and stay calm; know their location let the 9-1-1 telecommunicator lead the conversation; be prepared to answer questions; and before you text 9-1-1, remember to “Call if you Can, Text if you Can’t.”
