CAPCOG and the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) are hosting a webinar series to prepare local governments and other organizations to apply for EDA’s American Rescue Plan Act funding opportunity.
This second webinar in the series will feature Giddings EDC Director, Tonya Britton, who will discuss best practices and tips for submitting a successful EDA grant application. Giddings received $1.8 million for a broadband, water, and road improvement project as part of EDA’s CARES Act funding opportunity. The webinar will close with questions and answers discussion.
Britton is a 20-year veteran in the field of economic development and has served as the Giddings Economic Development Corporation Executive Director since June 2014. Her career experience includes various facets of economic development in cities and community colleges across central Texas. Before arriving in Giddings, Britton served as the Director of Corporate Services at Lee College in Baytown, Texas where she helped spearhead the launch of the college’s Center for Workforce and Community Development in support of the region’s expansive petrochemical industry and provided fiscal oversight of the region’s Small Business Development Center.
Britton earned a BS in Geography/Community Development from the University of Minnesota and has graduate coursework in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship at the University of Houston-Victoria. She is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s International Economic Development Institute, the Community Development Institute, and the US Chamber of Commerce’s Institute of Organizational Management. She earned a Certificate in Municipal Finance from the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy, and certificates in Small Business Lending and Underwriting from NeighborWorks America.
The EDA has $3 billion to distribute nationwide for general economic recovery projects and tourism-related projects. The notice of funding opportunities for both types of projects should be released soon.
