Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking local elected officials who have an interest in issues related to behavioral health services and programs within the state to join its the Behavioral Health Advisory Committee. Applications are due May 9 and candidates will be appointed by Texas HHS Commission executive commissioner. The appointees will serve until Aug. 31, 2024.
The committee provides customer, consumer, and stakeholder input to the HHS system through recommendations regarding the allocation and adequacy of behavioral health services and programs within Texas. Committee members must regularly participate in committee meetings. Members also may be required to participate in subcommittee meetings, projects and presentations. Committee meetings are held about once every three to four months in Austin or at the call of the presiding officer. The 2021 meetings are already scheduled and can be viewed on its website. To the extent permitted by the current state budget, a committee member may be repaid for their travel expenses to and from meetings if money is available and in accordance with the HHSC Travel Policy.
HHSC will consider applicants’ qualifications, background, and interest in serving on the committee and will try to choose committee members who represent the diversity of all Texans. For this reason, HHSC considers applicants’ ethnicity, gender and geographic location.
